The idea was simple enough - a guy runs on an open road at night, surrounded by lasers. The execution however, took a lot of planning, building and a very long shoot day.
We wanted to use actual lasers, rather than try and add them in post, as we knew it would generate the best result. However in order to do this we needed to shoot in a studio - so that meant we needed to build a 25 meter road, lay down 2 tonnes of dirt, rig several large laser boxes, hang 50 meters of blacks and get creative with our grip gear to ensure that we could move as fast as our runner.
A lot of man (and woman) hours went into the build and the production, but it was all worth it for the end result.
To launch the latest range of football boots for 2015, we worked with rebel, nike, adidas, asics, puma and umbro to bring all the brands together under the one roof.
Featuring players from the AFL, NRL and A-League, the players collectively use their unique skills to infiltrate rebel HQ to pull of the ultimate heist.
For the launch of the 2016/17 cricket season we once again worked with rebel to produce a cinematic campaign that would be seen on TV, online and in cinema.
As well as the commercial spot we created a series of online videos showcasing the players that were launched as exclusive content through google.
The shoot took place over a number of days in Sydney, Melbourne and Boston.
The idea for rebel's "with you for the long run" was to depict a girl at various stages of her life from 5 to 55, as she runs in 30 seconds.
Casting this spot was the first major challenge, the second was fitting all 8 scenes into a 2 day shoot. Despite the challenges it was a fun shoot, and we got to play with some cool toys, most noticeably a segue and drone.
We also had a VR rig on set so you can watch behind the scenes from all angles.
No job is without its challenges - but this job had more than most - needing to get players from multiple football codes in multiple states to all appear together at once.
The solution was to shoot across a number of days in both Melbourne and Sydney - filming almost entirely on green screen in studio.
We teamed up with the Goodman Brothers to undertake the arduous task of VFX, over 60 shots in total. With every background needing to be created as matte paintings and tracked in, as well as the creation of ominous skies and glowing meteors and beams.
As well as filming the talent and boots, we spent a lot of time taking still shots to be stitched together to create the backgrounds for every shot.
